|
Acer Saccharinum |
Prunus Avium |
|
Ambrosia Maple |
American Cherry |
|
Native to North America, this wood has been attacked by the Ambrosia beetle larvae. The holes cored by these larvae are then infiltrated with a fungus that changes the coloration of the wood. So this wood will have worm holes as well as spaulting, but the spaulting follows the path of the worm holes. |
Native to North America, this wood darkens to a deep burgundy with time. |

|
Ulmus Americana |
Agathis Australis |

American Elm |
Ancient Kauri |
|
Native to North America, this wood is fairly rare now due to the devastation from Dutch Elm Disease. The stock I have was cut over 25 years ago. |
At between 35,000-50,000 years old this is the oldest workable wood in the world.
Kauri Trees are large Conifers similar to the Sequoias in California. One of the main excavators in New Zealand used a chainsaw to carve an internal spiral staircase in a Kauri Stump that their office was then built around. |
